Get creative and turn a blank canvas into a masterpiece

The Original Paint Nite

is a classic. Whether you’re a first-timer or you’d done it a dozen times, The Original Paint Nite experience is different every time. That’s because you’ll take a blank slate (or canvas) and turn it into something really amazing. Think of it as a step-by-step painting experience, except that you can add your own little flair to your piece – no two canvases look the same, and that’s just part of the fun!

Get ready to have fun with your friends with drinks, food and creativity to boot. To get started, you’ll want to visit your local event calendar.

When your event date comes up (hurray!), you’ll want to arrive at your venue nice and early for dinner, drinks and mingling. Then, you’ll be ready for the creative adventure of a lifetime because your local host is going to be busting out the paints and brushes for two straight hours of yays.

Step 1: Preparing to Paint

The first step in every Original Paint Nite event is getting a quick overview of the evening. You’ll learn a little of this and a little of that, but mostly about the tools you’ll be using to create your masterpiece.

From the different types of brushes at your disposal, to where to find the water (pro tip: never mistake your water cup for your wine cup!), by the end of the instruction part of your experience, you’ll be ready to take on your canvas. You’ll also get a quick overview of the paint colors you’ll be using and how to make perfect color combinations. Also, you’ll see where to get more supplies if you need them.

Step 2: Laying the Foundation – Background Painting

Once you feel like you’ve got a hang of your tools, you’ll be ready to start painting. By following along with your local host, you’ll be guided step-by-step on the elements needed to create each part of your painting. Your local host will also always provide detailed information on which brush to use for each element and instruct you on when you need to let certain parts of your canvas dry before moving onto the next area. With the background complete, you’ll be well on your way to a fantastic creation!

Step 3: Yay Break!

You may still be raring to go, but hey, your masterpiece needs to dry a little before you move onto the next step. So, what better time than the present to take what we like to call a “Yay Break!” This time is all about some mingling, some drink pouring and some time to check out your fellow artists’ canvases.

Step 4: The Finishing Touches – Detail Painting

With the drying process complete, the next and final step is to add all those final details into your painting. Your local host will guide you here again, showing you with their own painting how to add in all the necessary shapes, lines and colors to get your painting looking amazing. The best part about adding details to your painting is you can really add your own touches. Feel free to follow along exactly or to add a little pizzazz of your own – creativity is encouraged here, folks! And, if you ever get a little lost, don’t fret. Your local host will be able to guide you back on track to ensure your canvas comes out looking spectacular.
